Sunny Hills Residence
Extensive restoration with addition to a 1960’s post&beam ranch home located in the Sunny Hills Estate neighborhood of Fullerton, California into its former splendor, casting away several dated later era remodels from previous owners.
This spacious one-story home was expertly updated and transformed by Hsu McCullough to accommodate the contemporary needs of the homeowner's family while combining the rich opulence of luxurious material finishes and fixtures with an abundance of natural light in all rooms. They then dressed the home in an exuberant, yet timeless, palette of dark-hues-meets-light-neutrals inside and out.
Rich, marble in the kitchen and bathrooms in Black Forest and Café Bruno, “espresso” stained wood ceilings, two original wood burning fireplaces - painted white brick and plastered in charcoal colored cement respectively, Waterstone and Dornbracht plumbing fixtures against Zimbabwe Black granite counters with upscale kitchen appliances and top of the line amenities, are just a few of the home’s well-appointed details.
The home’s rear yard landscape brings a verdant glow into the interior spaces via the numerous windows and sliding doors added throughout the house. The added openings also connect the owner to several outdoor living spaces, some with direct sun throughout the day, while others are located under deep overhangs for shaded relief. The exterior roof overhangs and rafter tails painted “espresso” color further the modern look against the smooth trowel cement plaster walls and cement outdoor dining table and bench.
In addition to the full overhaul of the property, Hsu McCullough expanded the living space. They added an attached, private recreation room at the rear yard to establish a retreat with full bathroom to focus on the garden beyond.
