Tarpon Ranch
When standing back and looking at the spectacular property now known as Tarpon Ranch, the word and definition of “custom” comes foremost to mind. The amenities and details in this nearly 1 acre private resort are stunning. The minute you walk through the large arch topped front doors and look at the custom designed wood logo inset in the marble floor, the home says custom. And it started with very humble beginnings.
When D’Asign Source was invited to meet with the soon to be owner of the property that now houses Tarpon Ranch, it was a nearly abandoned piece of land with a partially finished, foreclosed home sitting on it. The draw of the property is the property itself. Nestled in between a canal, mangroves and ocean, it has views that are breathtaking at any time of the day or year. Once the owner met with our architectural department, the full potential of the property became clear.
As an avid flats fisherman, the owner wanted a comfortable property to host friends, family and other fisherman as well as allow for private areas of relaxation. Using the original footprint of the house, a pool was designed with a zero edge waterfall long enough for lap swimming marked out by tarpon lane markers. To accompany it was a swim up bar leading down to gas fire pit and sitting area and sand beach. To accentuate the front of the house, a porte cochere was added along with a circular drive way and water feature displaying a custom bronze tarpon sculpture. The property went from barren to lush with expert landscaping design and plants from D’Asign Source.
The main house had needs as well. The original master bedroom had very low ceilings and exterior windows and doors. The roof was raised on the second floor creating a vaulted ceiling, large master bathroom with double vanities, soaking tub and walk in shower. A 1,000 gallon salt water fish tank was added to separate the office from the living room. New doors that completely open and stack off to the side add to blurring the lines from inside to out.
The family room ceiling was reworked to add custom beam and wood plank features. The kitchen became the central hub of the home with a large center island sporting a handmade, fossil infused countertop. Add to that the state of the art appliances from Viking, double dishwashers, warming drawer and abundant refrigeration and freezer needs. Adjacent to the kitchen is a bar with a curved rail countertop, custom cabinets and enough storage to handle any size party. And no retreat is complete without a 500 bottle wine room to make sure you have whatever you are in the mood for on hand.
The family and dining room maintain a casual elegance throughout. The shell and crystal chandeliers pay homage to the sea while the 84" screen television and McIntosh integrated sound system will let you feel like you are at the game or concert. To keep the televisions from being the focus of other spaces, the guest bedroom, master bedroom and living room all have custom built pop up television units.
Within each room custom upholstery, bed linens, window treatments, area rugs and art work bring in the colors for the ocean in subtle shades of navy, soft green and creams. Area rugs were designed and custom colored and sized to fit the spaces exactly. And since lighting makes everything more inviting, lamps, sconces and pendants were selected throughout to enhance rooms and spaces.
The outdoor dining and kitchen are flexible spaces. When the weather is beautiful, the accordion doors around the circular outdoor dining room, will collapse and stack complete off the side of the structure. When the days are too warm, they can be closed and air conditioning will help cool things down. The outdoor kitchen offers everything you would need to create any feast from your day’s catch. Lynx barbecues and outdoor refrigeration highlight the amenities as well as the custom designed tarpon handles on the handmade mahogany cabinets.
Our customer also wanted to be able to have friends and fellow fisherman down to enjoy the beautiful waters of the Keys. Adjacent to the main house, a 3 bedroom, 4 bath guest house was developed. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and is outfitted with luxurious bedding to help ease away the long day of fishing. And the guest house is equipped with a fisherman’s fly room. Here, you can gather before you head out to tie fly’s, plot courses, select rods and tell big tales of previous adventures on the water.
