A lovely couple approached MAKE to work with them for their dream home to retire to. Set in the center of a 5-acre vineyard, the home stretches horizontally and bends in deference to align to the view of Mt San Jacinto. Passive solar design was an integral feature we explored with the client, incorporating wide overhangs shading windows from the desert heat. Their intent to add active solar panels in an integrated fashion was addressed with a folding surface extending from ground up over onto the roof and lifting at its end to open a north facing clerestory skylight, collecting soft diffuse daylight into the heart of the home.
