The Roundhouse

A conversion renovation/restoration project of an 1800's mill building, into a sleek and modern hotel, restaurant, lounge and event space serving the Hudson Valley and beyond.

The bar in Swift is also cerused oak, with leather bar stools from Lawson-Fenning. The artwork is by the Starn brothers who have a studio in Beacon.

The lounge in the restaurant downstairs provides a cozy respite from the busy street. The directive from Rockwell Group was to make it feel like, "the inside of an old cigar box." We had planks milled for the walls with deep "V-grooves" and stained them a dusty brown. We bought Dwell Studios...

The wall sconces are custom made by Hudson Beach Glass, a local Beacon glass facility that makes hand blown and cast pieces. We took great pains to get the glass just right, and the effect is amazing.

We incorporated a reading nook into every room. Here we provided a Walter Knoll leather sling chair and Mama lamp from Ligne Roset. The hotel is perched above a waterfall on the Fishkill Creek, so we were diligent about retaining the view. Photo by Meredith Heuer

This image shows one of the hospitality suites. You can see the custom designed white ash "live edge" bed by Wickham Solid Wood Studios. Also shown is the round bathtub. These suites are often booked by the bride and groom of weddings on the site, which is why the bathtub is "front row center".

The walnut desk was also custom made by Atlas Industries. The bentwood chair is stained in a pale lavender providing the only subtle jolt of color in the cool serene space. We had local glass blower Dan Spitzer (Ten Willow) fabricate hand blown glass pendants with swirled iridescent white color. The bathrooms have clerestory windows, so the lights are visible from the street at night. During the day, the sunlight throws shadows from the swirls all around the bathroom....
