Vertically Challenged

Our client bought this house in late 2017 and rented it until he was ready to create his private residence in Ansley Park. . He is commercial interiors architect and owner of the firm Hendrick in Atlanta.

In 2018, our client engaged Jones Pierce Studios with the challenge mitigate the 8 foot ceilings of the late 40's modest house to create some breathing room with his 6'-7" height. Jones Pierce provided client representation, design and build services. Our team coordinated with Chris Heard for the interior design and Jones Pierce Structures build group to realize the client's vision.

The house was an amazing intown find and the ideal candidate for a complete transformation.

The front façade was completely transformed by the addition of a glazed boxed bay to provide a 180-degree view of the golf course and create a heavier center massing for the house. The boxed bay is a brink box that has a higher plate height than the existing house to increase curb appeal.

The front door was relocated to a natural position for the existing entrance walk and car park. Visually, the new entry porch is defined with some styled timbers accentuating the corner porch.

The project established a new boundary for the Ansley Park neighborhood. It is now a single-family residence at the edge of Ansley Golf Club Course, as opposed to a rental property in the back of the Villa Parking lot.
Finding the Edge
The addition of a gable gave the opportunity to introduce vaulted ceilings and new windows facing the third tee box.
Give me the Height!
The elevated boxed bay addition created high ceilings in the living room. Trim was remove to mitigate 8' ceiling oppression.

The fireplace received a facelift with new surround and mantle that are centered in the room.

The stairs were replaced to have a landing that turns into the room and it's open to the living space.

Removed the exterior door from the side entry and replaced it by taller windows to create a bar.

Expanded the room to align with the owner's bath addition above and make space for a small island.

We added 6 feet on the back of the house to create space for an island in the kitchen

Kept the half-bath on the existing location, but gave it a cosmetic transformation with a unique wallpaper designed by the client's artist friend Brett Smith.
Powder Room
The main level bedroom was transformed into a living space with new doors that open to the front outdoor area. The room was design to be converted to an entry level primary bedroom for Aging in Place.

Several classic and unique pieces from the owner's collection are displayed in the residence.

Frosted glass shower doors allows simultaneous use of a small urban primary bath.
