This walnut bed frame is made using principles from the Japanese woodworking style of ishibatate. This approach works by integrating the structure to the natural material it rests on. I did this by using carbon paper to mark the contact point between the wood and stone then scribing the wood to exactly match the contour of the stone. The stone plinths are strong, long lasting, and accentuates the detail of the stone. This close integration really highlights the contrast of the stone and walnut.
