The Willamette Vineyard Residence is part of a larger project of the owners to setup a working vineyard in Oregon Wine Country. The vineyards and residence are under development with the long-term plan to add a winery and tasting room as the business takes hold. The 40-acre project is sited in the McMinnville foothills overlooking Willamette Valley to the east and the Coastal Range to the west. The house sits in a natural clearing at the site’s high point taking full advantage of the breathtaking views in both directions.

The form is a long bar with two wings separated by a covered outdoor patio. The main wing has the great room and master suite and the guest wing has two bedrooms, a common living room, and kitchenette for guests. The great room, outdoor patio, and guest living room act as intimate spaces for the day-to-day with the ability to connect all three for larger parties. Services like the laundry, pantry, and mud rooms are grouped along the entry-side of the house for privacy and to shield harsh evening sun in the summer. A simple roof line with deep overhangs also moderates the direct sun over the expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls framing the views.
