The owners of this 1940s Green Hills ranch wanted to convert a closed-in, galley kitchen into a family-friendly gathering place open to the family room. They also wanted the kitchen customized for the cook and for optimum storage.

To achieve this, we removed interior walls to expand the space and provide great circulation around the new island. Natural light was incorporated using larger windows over the prep area and a skylight above. Storage was maximized in the island and pantry located under the new stairway going to the attic.

In the family room, we added exposed beams and built custom cabinets and bookcases to flank the fireplace. This served to break up the large space and create a cozier feel.
