I designed this 9 by 9 foot, octagonal, wine cellar as a small portion of a larger renovation. The space I used was excavated under the building to maximize the constant year round temperature.

The merit in this project is in the harmonious but unyielding detail. I selected limestone floors, which I carried onto the walls wainscoting at the wine cellar’s entry steps. A custom-built multicolor mosaic marble border fits the cellar’s octagonal shape. The custom mahogany wine cases are recessed at each side of the octagon, while the corbels and beams frame each section of the walls and vaulted ceiling. An undulating wood banquette with wine harvest-themed cushions, alabaster light fixtures and an etched glass and steel table complete the décor. The custom mahogany entry door was hand tooled with patterns inspired by wine barrels, and I used the same insight in the design for all the hardware.
