The absence of the vaunted "kitchen triangle" - I see that the appliances and sink are laid out all along the same wall. There is no triangle. Is this the kiss of death or not such a big deal? I am considering the same thing.

I would be concerned about the amount of storage. Feels low on storage to me.

What kind of casters are used on the movable island to keep hardwood floors from being damaged? - I am remodeling my kitchen. I had a wheels put on the island so that it would be moveable. The wheels are black rubber according to the cabinet builder but they feel very hard. They have already left marks on the floor. This is a heavy island. Is there a solution? Softer wheels? Help!

Here ya go, gwilson - this is a 4 inch swivel caster with brake, as I assumed you wanted a smaller overall height. It has a 300 pound capacity per caster, so it's fairly beefy. It's a non-marking gray polyurethane wheel with a tread that doesn't flat spot, so it's pretty much best case scenario for your island.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Jen L'Italien added this to Space Saver: Put Your Storage on Wheels
In this modern kitchen, you have a long utility cart that doubles as a kitchen island and a dining table. That's a way to make space work for you — here the kiddos can hang out while dinner is being prepared.Tip: If you want your kitchen island cart double as a table where the family can sit, consider an open cart rather than a solid island. That way you have space to put your legs and can sit more comfortably.
Becky Harris added this to 20 Favorite Modern Bar and Counter Stools
13. The Knicker Stool: What I love about this Blu Dot stool is that it has contemporary lines that easily transition between traditional and modern spaces. The way it's upholstered makes it looks like it's wearing a cozy sweater.
Scheer & Co. Interior Design added this to Kitchen Storage Goes on a Roll
There's nothing wrong with wheeling in an island with a little contrast, though. This one is sort of a happy medium. While it isn't an exact match to the fixed cabinets, it repeats the materials used in the rest of the kitchen, making it a well-integrated addition. The supplementary work surface is further utilized by adding counter stools for extra seating. For a party, roll the island out to where the action is and make it the bar with additional seating to keep guests from gathering in the kitchen.
Tiffany Carboni added this to Steel Yourself: Industrial Kitchen Islands Are On a Roll
Consider your space. “The first thing to consider when determining the island’s style is the space where the island is going,” says Burkhardt. “Above all else it needs to fit its space, allow proper circulation and add to the function of the kitchen.”
Judith Taylor Designs added this to 11 Ways to Update Your Kitchen Without a Sledgehammer
10. Add a Floating IslandIf a new bank of cabinetry is beyond the budget, try a ready-made freestanding piece to add extra storage and a surface for working and eating. Why not add a new top to a freestanding piece of furniture and extend the edge for an eating counter? The minimum overhang would be 25-30cm, but there are a few considerations to note when extending the top. Take care not to shift the balance of weight so much that the piece is unstable (people love to rest their elbows, adding weight to the surface). Also you may need to add brackets to support the overhang.
Toronto Interior Design Group added this to 10 Ways to Refresh Your Kitchen Island
6. Island Cart This one is a bit of a cheat since you’ll have to replace your fixed island altogether, but if it’s beyond salvaging (or if you don’t have one to start with), subbing a free-standing cart lends a real chef’s-kitchen vibe and a more open look.
Bryan Anthony added this to Ways to Fall in Love With a One-Wall Kitchen
If you want an island for everyday use but also want the option to open up the space for special occasions, choose an island with wheels. This custom-made stainless steel and wood island with casters is a great example.
Becky Harris added this to Drool-Worthy Design Features to Borrow From Restaurant Kitchens
12. Faucet with integrated spray nozzle. If you are a big cook, you have a lot of big cleanups to do. This easy-to-grab sprayer is a huge help.
