Does 'letting it go' hurt the integrity of the soapstone material?

No it doesn't seem so with this kitchen sink.

thank you, I didn't realize sinks could be made with soapstone slabs. Now I know I can ask to fit one for our laundry room, which would also mean I could put the drain where I want, more off to the right instead of center. :)

I purchased what appear to be identical ones from Architectural Resource Center for a bit less than Restoration Hardware. Maybe check them out, too.

Agreed, wailuka, as I checked into it too. That's why it's so hard to ask for paint colors you see based on photographs that are online. Lighting from job site to job site is always so different, then you throw in the photography and any editing that could have been done, plus from computer screen to computer screen the images will appear different. As a professional I know better than to ask that question, but it really did seem the perfect yellow for what I was looking for based on the image, so I took an off chance and asked the question so I could look for the color. I found a color like what I was seeing in the photograph by simply grabbing several shades of yellow, bringing them home and looking at them in my space and with other elements I had going on in my room. The shade I found that gave me the look I was going for was also from Pratt & Lambert called Ever Sunshine. Maybe take a look at that shade and see if you think it fits the yellow you are seeing on your screen. Hope that helps!

Yes it is functional. It is an Antique Hand Clamp to hold dish towels. It was a flea market find but can probably find one similar on ebay.

Yes - a local sink fabricator built this sink for our client. And no, there has not been any concern about the apron breaking off. Our client has had this sink for 15+ years and has had no issues. The soap stone has aged really well.

The fridge wrap is galvanized sheet metal. The metal shop made it to size and it sleeves over the doors (handles removed) and screws into the sides (thickness) of the doors to attach. I do not even think we used contact cement.
The handles were applied via screws on top of the galvi and not welded on.
Note: it does null & void the warranty on the fridge doors… although we have had this set up for at least 8 years on a 13 year old fridge and it has not been a problem in any way.
Hope that helps.

Cost – should ask your local stone fabricator…. Seattle prices will not likely be the same as other places. Ann online source you could try is http://www.vermontsoapstone.com/index.html

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Laura Gaskill added this to 10 Inventive Ideas for Kitchen Islands
1. Install an oversize sink. Perfect for washing large pots and pans and filling vases (or even washing a small dog), an extra-deep and extra-wide sink also makes a strong design statement. The capacious size calls to mind farmhouses and cheerful country homes, and you can play up a big sink even more with an interesting material like the soapstone shown here.2. Colour your cabinets. Painting the base of your island bright buttercup yellow is a bold choice. The color is unabashedly optimistic and perfect for a room you gravitate towards first thing in the morning.
Sheila Schmitz added this to Cooking With Character: 13 Personality-Packed Kitchens
Farmhouse with attitude. Sunny yellow wooden cabinets look anything but cutesy paired with this wonderfully tough-looking soapstone island countertop and large farmhouse sink. A modern white fridge might have looked out of place, so it has been covered with galvanized sheet metal, adding another exciting edge to this otherwise cute cottage kitchen.
Toronto Interior Design Group added this to Which Faucet Goes With a Farmhouse Sink?
In fact, if you’re using a heavily patinated material, a simple stainless steel or chrome faucet might be the safest bet for a crisp counterpoint.
Becky Harris added this to 12 Farmhouse Touches That Bring Homeyness to a Kitchen
A soapstone sink. This fantastic sink is deep enough to hide all of the pots, pans and dishes while the owners are entertaining. The galvanized steel cover on the refrigerator also lends a utilitarian farm look.Learn more about soapstone
Jess McBride added this to Feel-Good Home: A Passion for Patinas
8. Stylish soapstone. Metal isn’t the only substance prone to alchemic changes in its chemical structure. Soapstone, loved by some as a countertop material, morphs with age. Being relatively soft, it will scratch and nick, which many find charming. It will also go from black to gray to even a bit green over time.
