At this project in Vienna, the goal was to tie the existing deck and small Techo-Bloc paver patio into a new pool, larger pool patio and add a massive play structure set in the lower yard. Using several low stone masonry walls, we were able to terrace the area without the need of railings. A free form pool was set up at the patio level with a small waterfall to add some peaceful sounds, visual interest, and a great place to jump off. A 30” storm pipe with large river-stone swales now controls the run-off from the neighboring homes and street and keeps the water away from the pool. To be in accordance with county codes and to make the area feel like a “lagoon in the garden”, hundreds of native plants, including oaks, dogwoods, viburnum and inkberry hollies, were planted. Stone steps tie the existing paver walk into the new pool area and a low voltage lighting system allows the party to go on into the night.
