Adams-Toscano Residence

This 3 bedroom, 3 bath modern cottage was designed for two classical musicians. It's organized around an open floor plan and vaulted living room opening to a lofted master bedroom. Spaces are delineated by changes in ceiling height and shaping, highlighted with the use of accent paint colors. The interior design emphasizes natural woods and industrial steel accents. Custom steel work is incorporated into the kitchen backsplash and fireplace vent pipe as well as the railings. The kitchen island cabinets and cladding are constructed of reclaimed heart pine panels. Daylighting is maximized through controlled southern glazing along the side of the home, and over-sized sliding glass doors open to the wooded western views along the back of the home. Perched along the top of a slope to wooded ravine with a creek, the home has the effect of being in a treehouse. With the area of usable flat yard space being limited to the modestly-sized front yard, outdoor living is maximized through the addition of a terrace off the bedrooms above the carport, and a large deck and screened porch on the rear of the home which overlook a beautifully landscaped path and gardens leading down to the creek. The massing of the exterior is a gabled form to relate to the surrounding older cottages in the neighborhood; however, it interjects a more modern aesthetic in it's detailing.
