Poolhaus
This pool house / guest house is situated behind a cedar shake craftsman home in a historic district in Athens, GA. Despite being in a historic district, the clients wanted a more modern design for their new structure. They were drawn to the idea of melding beachy, modern, and industrial influences into a new backyard oasis in the hot, humid Georgia climate. The large anodized aluminum-clad bifolding patio doors push the limits of building in a historic district and completely open the interior space to the surrounding patio and pool. The vaulted ceiling and large door openings make the small space feel much larger. The local historic commission was embracing of the design in that it thoughtfully combines elements of the existing historic home with more modern touches. This approach ties it to the neighborhood context, yet also possess an honesty as to when it was constructed.
