An entire design inspired by the client's antique tansu chest, this kitchen combines three finishes, two woods, and two styles of cabinetry along with both granite and quartz counter tops. The cherry wood island references the tansu chest with its inset Shaker drawer and door fronts while the "frameless" perimeter cabinets are in a vertical grain caramelized bamboo. The light fixtures and metallic tile back splash allude to a Eastern Asian influence without directly copying any one feature or aspect. In the end, the kitchen plays but a supporting role to the magnificent views of Puget Sound visible just outside the breakfast area.
