Bastian-Orem Utah

This project was patterned after houses the owners loved on the East Coast. It was fun designing the landscape to complement the fresh look this style added to the community. The house was located at the end of a cul de sac with a long and narrow yard. Through the use of rock seat walls, ipe decks, and continuity of product, we were able to theme the landscape in such a way that everything came together nicely. Colors, patterns, textures and materials were repeated throughout the landscape so that the house looked at home at the base of the Wasatch Mountain Range.

This cozy space features a raised ipe deck for easy access out of the family room and kitchen. The deck steps down to a walkway, lined by a rock seat wall and into a crushed gravel fire feature area. This space is intimate and serves as the gathering area for the family.

Even though the front yard is narrow, we were able to soften the transition from the hardscape to the house with strategic use of plants, columnar trees, rock seat walls and paver patios softened by swaths of grass.

This cozy patio, located in the front yard, is screened with trees, plants and raised rock seat walls, creating a peaceful place for entertaining. The rock stair treads lead to the side entry of the kitchen. A crushed gravel pathway leads into the backyard.
