GHI+D was approached by a long time client to revitalize a dated investment property located on exclusive Kiawah Island, SC. Originally purchased in 2012 as a two bedroom/two bath unit, the challenge was to increase the amount of guests the unit could sleep while simultaneously making the floor plan feel more open and bright. Designers Robert Grayson and Andrew Harris reworked the floor plan and transformed the space into a three bedroom/three bath with a reading loft and media room. By enclosing the vaulted ceilings and creating a loft level, the square footage increased from 1250 to 1633, but the real magic came from an idea to mirror the living room ceiling in a contemporary pattern. Bringing the gorgeous coastal views inside not only made the unit feel twice the size, but also led to inspire the finish selections throughout. Polished chrome hardware and the dining room pendant were playful nods to the ceiling pattern and verde veccio marble countertops emulate the deep blue-greens of the ocean just outside. The bright artwork and accessories add a playfulness to the sophisticated elegance of their backdrop. The design team was successful in delivering a luxurious retreat that optimizes the use of space and is uniquely modern for the Carolina coast.
