Birch Street Bungalow Kitchen

The Birch Street Bungalow was a beautiful little house in need of love and care. Bungalows are characterized by big windows and high ceilings, which the clients – Hasso and Bob – fell in love with. However, they were hoping to modernize the floor plan, which was divided into a bunch of tiny rooms. As part of the gut remodel, the kitchen wall was taken down, and the living area was opened up into one generous light-filled space. Hasso and Bob wanted a colorful kitchen that created a focal point in this new room, but we also knew that the colors had to be timeless and gentle enough to create a calming presence – we didn’t want the color choices to feel overpowering. We decided to pair the custom lavender cabinet fronts with plywood fronts as well, and a bright, cheerful yellow concrete countertop. In order to integrate some more color into the space, we designed a bank of teal cabinets on the inside of the kitchen island. Seen only from this perspective, this pop of teal is a joyful surprise.
