Blossoming streetside
The goal of this project was to reclaim a small sliver of front yard from weeds and passing dog traffic, and mold it into a streetside garden for personal use and quiet repose. A large granite bench of stone quarried in Quincy, MA in the 1880s anchors this contemporary design firmly within the historical context of its Cambridgeport locale. Salt-tolerant perennials are well suited to a location next to the street and are resilient in the face of meandering animals and exposure to road salt. Granite settes in gravel form a stunning new front walkway and flowering evergreen shrubs against the house mask the foundation in all seasons.
