The loft is located in SoHo, in a cast-iron building from 1895 that has been named a New City Landmark. The existing façade has been preserved, while the apartment interior was completely renovated respecting the historic detailing. The project entailed a reconfiguration of the floor plan, refinishing, and decor. The goal was to conserve the openness and character of the loft as far as scale and materials while adding one more bedroom and two bathrooms. The 12’ tall, vaulted ceilings structured the new layout, emphasizing the unique architectural components of the building. And the original materials were exposed to commemorate the industrial spirit: cast-iron columns, steel doors, concrete and wood floors.
