Built for Entertaining

My clients’ vision of a sleekly-modern home in black and white sparked the inspiration for the design of their expansive, newly constructed home in Naperville, IL.

We began this process at the blueprints stage, which is the ideal time to begin working with an interior designer.

My clients were taking a big step up from a lovely, smaller home to a more-than 10,000-square-foot, three-level space on a 2.3-acre site. We discussed their wants and needs and set goals.

As entrepreneurs and family-oriented parents, my clients were looking forward to building their dream home, a place where they could raise their children, entertain family and friends, work at home when desired and enjoy private time together.

We agreed that their home should be modern and memorable, warm and inviting. Abundant seating was important, and we discussed the importance of window treatments and rugs to improve acoustics in a large space and make it feel cozier.

From the inspirational design photos my clients’ gathered, I quickly imagined a lively fusion of Miami’s cool-sophisticated vibe and Midwestern warmth. Throughout the project, I focused on luxury materials and furnishings, unexpected elements – I call them fireworks! - and an impeccable fit-and-finish.

Every layer of a home is important. When you open the front door, you want the interior to reflect the quality of the construction. The dining room is a great example. From the hand-painted, shimmery wallpaper to the ultra-modern jigsaw-like mirror and custom rug, this space makes everyone feel special, like they’re sitting in a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The 2-acre property is ideal for this home, with a wooded lot and a native pond that provide a sense of country living in the Chicago suburbs. I can just imagine the cheerful sounds of birds singing in the spring and occasional wildlife roaming through their yard! While my clients enjoy sharing their home with friends and family, they value privacy, too. Where necessary, I used design elements to subtly divide their private spaces from the areas open to family and friends on the main and lower levels. The priorities and needs of each family member are reflected in the design of the home. Every space is mindfully designed to fulfill a purpose, whether that’s a play area for the children, a private office for the husband or a lower level entertainment area that includes a wine lounge, bar, multiple seating areas and TVs, plus a shuffleboard table and golf simulator.

When we did the “unveiling,” my clients were thrilled with their dream home. They told me it never feels too big, and always feels inviting.
