Modern front and backyard makeover in East York. As often the case with new builds, the landscaping is left unfinished, in this case there was existing lawns and some fencing, so the landscaping was pretty much a blank slate for this contemporary home with sunny yards.
Front yard: A large front lawn was replaced with contemporary gardens in pea gravel surrounded by corten steel edging. A low cedar deck was added to give the owners a place to sit out front. A flagstone path was put in for access to the gardens and the deck. A corten steel planter box was installed in front of the steps. The low maintenance plantings are a mix of ornamental grasses and flowering perennials for full sun.
Backyard: A new cedar bbq porch was built with a low deck beside it for the clients to use for yoga practice. A flagstone patio for entertaining is surrounded but a mix of pea gravel and flagstone and gardens. A horizontal fence was added at the back along with columnar oak trees for privacy from the neighbours. A new north fence and gate was added, as well as a corten steel planter beside the porch steps.
