Cape Gray
In today's dynamic households, it's increasingly common for multiple generations—children, parents, and grandparents—to share a single home. This trend calls for thoughtful design that meets everyone's unique needs. This was precisely our goal for a charming 1950s Mountain View home. We aimed to create a harmonious space where grandma and grandpa could move with ease, parents could keep an eye on their kids from the kitchen, and children had their own spaces to play and explore.
Our renovation journey began with a complete gutting of the house, down to the studs. The outdated brick fireplace was removed and replaced with a grand window, inviting natural light and garden views into the home. By relocating the laundry room to the back and the kitchen to a new corner, we dramatically transformed the home's layout, creating an open, airy feel.
To ensure the home was comfortable for the elderly, we designed the master bathroom with a curb less shower and a wheelchair-friendly sink. A front ramp and hardwood floors throughout the house provided additional accessibility. For the kids, we added cozy cubbies for Storytime and a practical mudroom with shelving and hooks, perfect for storing their school gear after a busy day.
The kitchen, once a confined space, was reimagined as the heart of the home. It now features crisp white custom cabinetry, sleek quartz countertops, a spacious kitchen island, a prep sink, and a coffee bar. The blend of traditional subway tiles and modern stainless-steel appliances gives the space a timeless yet contemporary look, making it a favorite gathering spot for the entire family.
This thoughtful redesign not only preserved the home's nostalgic charm but also ensured it catered to the practical needs of a multigenerational family. Our budget analysis and project development, led by May Construction, turned this vision into a reality, creating a space where memories will be made for years to come.
