Carmel Valley

This San Diego home was one of many like it in a planned community. Our mandate from the client was to take a standard issue interior and give it a soft, contemporary style with bold color punctuation. The clients, both executive level engineers, had little confidence in their design choices, at least in the beginning, so the interior design decisions was inout hands.

The most dramatic change was the installation of a burgundy, bamboo floor in the living room, dining room and kitchen. Since these rooms were open and connected, the burgundy flooring gave the home a vibrant color foundation. The complementing colors were soft, the furniture contemporary classics, and the rugs and fabrics ...shaggy, silken and sueded.

The clients were quick studies and developed a sophisticated design eye as the project progressed, especially in their choices of dynamic art, with several works commissioned. Other bold color choices made by them included a deep purple Venetian plaster fireplace surround, and counter-to-ceiling back-painted green glass walls in the kitchen.

At the very end of the project, an abstract bronze sculpture was commissioned and mounted on the exterior wall to greet guests at the entry of the house.
