Urban Ranch, Encinitas, CA.

This project was a complete renovation of the original, untouched 1990's,
2,800 sq. ft ranch house set in the hills of Encinitas, a San Diego beach community. The original footprint was preserved but every surface was touched, including the demolition of a stout, 2 sided fireplace separating the living room and dining room (seen in the mirror of the "before" dining photo...click to enlarge), which was replaced with a custom designed 12 ft high walnut dividing wall. An extensive lighting plan was developed including custom made decorative fixtures, LED recessed house lighting, LED ledge lighting and LED cabinet lighting for easy maintenance. This home has ceiling heights that vary from 10 ft to 14 ft high, so a lighting plan utilizing long last LED lights was a necessity.

With the exception of the dining room tables and chairs, and the guest bedroom furniture, all furnishings, window treatments, rugs, textiles, art and accessories were selected, purchased and installed by the Designer.

The exterior was also in our scope of work which included new paint colors, new exterior lighting, patio furniture layout, new outdoor area rugs, and new plants/planters. Consulting with the landscape designer united the interior and exterior color palettes.

This client is a professional woman involved in her family's international consulting business. She has an 8 year old son and a dog, both well mannered.
She is casual by nature, and wanted a comfortable, stylish, contemporary, child and dog proof home. Since she is very close to her large and extended family, so a gallery of large format framed family photos and art was created in the living room, and has become a favorite of her family and friends. Original Art was commissioned for the walnut wall opposite the gallery in the living room (sculpture), the family room (abstract canvas) dining room (floral print on metal) and hallway (reflective glass light sculpture).

This is the type of project we love to do.… take a worn, funky, dated interior and
transform it so it is current and stylish, and expresses the personality of the inhabitants. This transformative process is the Alchemy in Design Alchemie.
