Chelsea Penthouse
The client had a colorful wallpaper pattern from Osborne and Little that she knew she wanted to use. That was it. She was ready to renovate and redecorate her 3,000 square foot duplex penthouse after living in it for six years and decided to select a talented team: an architect, Kinlin Rutherfurd, and us, the interior designers and give us the keys. The goal was to incorporate color and pattern and create a sophisticated, beautiful home.
We kept the finishes and design of the architecture modern and used a neutral palette to offset the décor. We selected minimalist furniture in rich colors like sapphire and citrine and materials such as shearling, brass, polished nickel and burled woods. The floors throughout are wide plank grey-washed white oak. We clad the fireplace with glazed grey brick and installed a new open tread stair to the second floor.
We sourced furniture from every decade since the 1950s and from all over the world. In the living room a turquoise Tufty Time sofa from B & B Italia pops against an abstract rug. In the dining room we paired a custom welded sculptural pendant with a slim Naan dining table from Cassina. In the master bedroom we created a backdrop on the headboard wall with a brightly colored wallpaper from Elitis and finished it with a custom knit blanket from Mischa Lampert. Upstairs we paired a classic sofa in walnut and deep blue mohair with a grey marbleized Schumacher wallpaper and a brass tripod floor lamp from Paris. In the foyer we paired vintage sconces we found in Vienna with a custom console in tamo ash designed by Lucy.
