This client knew he wanted a beautiful home and that he didn’t want an overly dark, masculine design, which might be typical for a young man in his twenties. We agreed the space should feel airy and uplifting. We started with concept imagery of interiors with high contrast – white walls with dark accents in the modern furniture. He knew he wanted to entertain large groups of friends in the living room and wanted a bar area.

We selected a very long sofa in a light beige for the living room and for form and color contrast, a Le Corbusier LC1 sling chair in black. We grounded the room with a Safavieh flatweave rug with an energetic pattern. We found a vintage Flos flushmount in the Netherlands to finish of the room with some some shine.

For the dining room we chose a de la Espada oak table and an oversized metal pendant that help define the space. The black Thonet chairs add contrast. We had a custom dark-stained oak and white lacquer bar cabinet made.

In his bedroom we painted the walls a cool dark grey and used a grey upholstered bed for a tone-on-tone effect with the walls. We offset the grey with white bedding from Matteo. We hung a Flos swing-arm sconce over the bed to add a sculptural element.

We worked with Uprise, a New York City gallery, to find unique pieces that add color and energy to the apartment.

The finishing touch was when we hunted down all the flatware, dinnerware and bedding. Everything together created a very personal home.
