Chicago Residence

This site offered many challenges – poor soils, low light, and space constraints – making it difficult to create an entertaining space. It needed a balanced front foundation on a site ravaged by urban impacts.

The landscape architect used a combination of elements to create separation between the street and residence. Hornbeams were installed to frame the front façade. Fencing now creates a buffer between street and home. The boxwood parterre from the original landscape was re-imagined and scaled to harmonize with the front. Seasonal containers add color, keeping the landscape fresh throughout the year. The new bluestone patio reflects the architecture of the home, responding to the crisp lines and sharp geometric edges visible throughout.
