Evanston Residence
The client for this project is an interior designer, so there was a lot of importance placed on attention to detail of both materials and design intent as well as a focus on creating a clean space that reflected the architecture of the home. Plantings were done en masse to keep the groupings contemporary and create drifts of color and texture throughout the space.
The lack of allowable impermeable surface led to the combination of tumbled brick pavers and bluestone banding as the medium for the rear patio. This allows some of the runoff water to trickle through the joints and sub-base giving the homeowner more patio space to work with while adhering to the limitations imposed by the city.
The bluestone stepper pathway connects the front and rear yards without a fully impervious surface and gravel base, allows for water to absorb much more easily. Hornbeams are used to provide some much needed shade and privacy on this east facing city lot with a tight hedge installed along the property line.
