Classic and Compact
The kitchen was a long awaited remodel of a retired couple. The original kitchen was dated, lots of wasted space and in an "L" shape. The home is at the beach so they requested an airy, open feeling with an island that a couple of friends could sit and chat while the clients cooked. The appliances were chosen for their compactness, the Silestone countertops for their ease of maintenance, hardwood floors to match the rest of the home and for leg and back comfort and the backsplash for simplicity and a little color. The dishwasher is the only "hidden" appliance so that the island felt more like a piece of furniture when looking in from the hallway. The "pantry wall" features stepped out base cabinetry to provide shape to the countertop and providing extra room for large serving platters when the clients are entertaining. A hidden niche is being used to display treasures and keep favorite cookbooks at hand.
