This project involved a complete transformation of a dated landscape to a new and much improved landscape for the new homeowners. It included a new, expanded permeable driveway which involved considerable excavation into an existing bank, retaining walls with drain outlets and a trench drain. To create a grand entrance from the street we built out and extended the front steps to wrap around the front by adding new concrete, beautiful stone and a glass box aluminum railing with custom paint (to match the existing facade) for all the steps and the existing patio. To add additional curb appeal we parged the front patio wall and added a foundation planting bed, regraded the front and installed sod and a ground cover planing bed beneath the large evergreen tree. We connected the front and the rear yards with new walkways, separated by a new wooden gate, added a new 50 SF mudroom (includes sliding patio door, operable windows, plus interior work including insulation and poly, MDF window casings and trim, and white ship lap boards on walls and ceiling) with an integrated BBQ deck and enclosed storage beneath. In the rear yard we added a large stone patio, a big wooden pergola with a privacy screen at the side, and a raised planter feature intended for garden vegetables and herbs that also serves as informal seating, plus a large (8' tall) 75 LF 2-sided wooden fence (the backside has vertical boards to match the neighbours existing fencing), beautiful new planting beds and mature plants. To illuminate everything we added path lights along walkways, uplights under trees, and downlights on structures like the pergola, mudroom and gate overhead, plus undercounted lights in the retaining wall coping on both sides of the driveway all connected to a WiFi enabled controller. We worked with the clients from start to finish and they described the transformation as "it's like having a new home".
