Contemporary Home Overlooking Linlithgow Loch

The clients’ priorities for this new build house were to maximise views over Linlithgow Loch and create a home that both blends into but enhances the local context. The result is a prominent, contemporary house characterised by generous amounts of glazing and a monochrome material palette of white and black, paired with a form and shape of house that nods to properties in it's immediate context.

To take full advantage of the setting, all primary living areas and bedrooms are oriented towards the Loch. Expansive sliding doors and windows connect these rooms to the outdoors, whether to a landscaped garden, an angled terrace, or a semi-enclosed balcony. These elements create a strong indoor-outdoor connection and optimise light and views throughout the day.

A central, 3 storey brick spine wall is a focal point of the interior. It carries a minimal, open-tread, feature staircase. The stairwell is crowned by a bespoke pitched roof light that draws natural light down the heart of the interior.

The functional spaces of the house are to the front, away from the loch. These include a feature garage, a home cinema, a gym, and a home office. These ensure the house offers everything under one roof but allows the primary living spaces and bedrooms to have pride of place.

This project is both modern and contextually sensitive. The house provides for generous living but focuses itself around the views out to the beautiful setting.
