Corner Shelves - A creative way to maximize space!
As a builder I am often asked by my wife to fabricate / install things for our home. Her most recent request was some built in corner shelves. They turned out nice so I thought I'd share how I did it as it could be replicated quite easily. I started with the layout of the shelves which determined the quantity of materials needed .. Next I went to the lumberyard and picked up the following materials needed to complete the build. 1- sheet of 4 foot x 8 foot 5/8 thick AC plywood / several 2 inch x 2 inch x 4 foot long doug fir & some 8 foot lengths of 2 7/16 inch tall Santa Fe Door casing made by Kelleher. 1.) I started by cutting the plywood down to the size that fit our wall, in my case 2 foot x 2 foot x 10 inch deep 2.) I then added the 2 inch x 2 inch around the edge to act as a place to secure the trim as well as mount the finished shelves. 3.) Next I installed the trim to the outer edges. 4.) I installed the shelves by attaching the 2 inch x 2 inch rails to the wood stud on the wall. Finally I painted them and my wife took it from there. The result a corner that looks great and maximize space that would likely go un-used Note: The finished pictures are not fully complete as I plan to add a bottom layer to the shelves so they appear to be floating
