Cottage by the Lake

The lakeside location was fabulous, but the cottage was in need of some sprucing up. New pergolas were added throughout the landscape, providing cool shade for the residents during the hot summer months. A remodeled kitchen provided more counter space for our client, and a new master bedroom provided beautiful lake views.

A shot of the back yard seating area, right outside of the kitchen (while some of the lights are being installed). Our clients wanted the home to have a traditional cottage-like garden that would encourage butterflies and hummingbirds to stop by. Each of the mature trees onsite were left untouched.

The quaint guest cottage right by the side of the lake. The cottage is echos the style and vernacular of the home, and has access to equally stunning lakeside views!

The new renovation included a small guest cottage. Here, the entry to the guest cottage has copper gutters and a small pergola. The climbing vines are just beginning to come back to life after a long winter, and a bird has picked out a new spot for its nest!

An island, large windows (on the right) and more counter space were added to the kitchen. Natural light flows in, and wonderful lake views abound!

New wooden steps hug the hillside and lead down to the lake (the stairs were unfinished when this picture was taken -- they still need that railing and landscaping). A new deck was added to the home, as was the new 4-story stone addition.

The traditional garden at the home provided inspiration for the remodel. Many of the plants are natives or able to thrive in the Great Lakes region, so the garden requires minimal watering.
