Historic District Remodel

This ongoing project is all about bring new life to several historic structures!

Working with historic buildings can be a challenge, as you are frequently unable to make changes to the envelope of the structure -- meaning you have to work with the existing doorways, window frames. The task is being able to reconcile a 100+ year structure with contemporary living standards.

We opened up the interior of the spaces -- high ceilings always make a room feel larger and brighter. New windows, new insulation, new bathrooms, new kitchens, and the addition several skylights makes the space feel entirely different!

New walls and a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for an old building! Over its lifetime, this building has been a carriage house, a dentist's office, and wood shop at various times. With its recent remodel, it became a bright and airy, two-story rental unit behind the main house.

Because this structure (formerly a carriage house, dentist's office, and wood shop over the past 100 years!) has historic status, we could not change the envelope of the building. That meant no adding larger windows, so we worked with the existing size! High ceilings and bright walls help bounce...
