Deer Mountain Home
There were many areas my client wanted to improve, but, by far, the most challenging was that of creating a cottage garden filled with successively-blooming perennials to be seen out her kitchen window. You see, the place attracted as many as 30 hungry deer at any given day.
I selected species that were high on the 'least browsed' list but, as a hedge, a minimal electric fence was also installed that kept the flowers unscathed.
At the house back, I created a classic border of Peonies under planted with Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant' for that blowsy look the wife loved. Two Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns' added character and complimented the house's cedar siding.
I also added lots of white spring-blooming daffodils and muscari. After extending the beautiful stone walls, a 'grotto' area housed anemones, nepeta and ferns.
