Eagle Street

In this total renovation in San Francisco, two aging apartment flats were combined to make one brand new residence. The basic shape of the existing building remained unchanged, but everything else was torn down and rebuilt.

Here at the street façade, eight-foot high double doors flanked by side lights open onto balconies enclosed by strands of steel cables. Two shades of integrally colored stucco replaced the old terrazzo and wood siding.

The walls of the entry reach up into a large skylight that casts light and shadow through the clear glass floor of the bridge.

Looking the other way toward the bridge is the living area with panoramic views of the Bay. The freestanding fireplace is clad in cherry wood and granite.

In the master bathroom are two glass sinks on a stone counter, and a sauna accessed through the shower. A full height window (not seen here) allows more views into the sauna. Natural hued materials add to the comfort of the space.
