Equestrian Kitchen

This wonderful, early 20th century stone gem with Scottish architectural influence needed to be brought into the 21st century. The back-of-house which consists of mudroom, kitchen, and butler’s pantry was designed to fit the opulence of this home, and the busy lifestyle of a family with three children, five dogs, and two horses.
During the eighties, this home had an “update” which consisted of ripping out a beautiful butler’s pantry and putting in an inadequate kitchen by today’s standards.

The beautiful butler’s pantry of yesteryear has been recreated and is used constantly for buffets, and service to the formal dining room. Also, it is a beautiful gathering place to discuss and taste some of the finest wines or champagnes from this homeowner’s extensive collection.
A kitchen cannot be designed and contained within its four walls, so we created an access from the garage for ease of transporting groceries. We also made sure that everything had a place for a streamlined preparation of family meals. With all-refrigerator and refrigerator drawers, fresh produce from the garden fills every bit of cubic footage. The freezer being a storage item does not take up prime real estate in the kitchen and is stored in a working pantry.
The kitchen is integrated architecturally, and with the barrel ceiling and the paneled frieze and soffit the magnitude of this home is carried into this space seamlessly. Soapstone countertops are easily maintained with castor oil and have developed a rich color and depth with time. As with all kitchens we study the lifestyle of the homeowner and ensure that all of their needs are met. Each drawer and cabinet are extensively thought out aesthetically and functionally.
