Face Lift
We took this lack luster master bath in a 1990's home and gave it some major WOW for a budget of $15,000!! The challenge was blending the older '90s biscuit-beige of the poured marble tub with a newer, crisper, cleaner palette. The solution was to work with a blue-grey that makes all white-type hues pop and create a spectrum in whites with the tile in the shower being a shade creamer than the bright-white sinks, but brighter than the tub. And then, just to round out the white spectrums, we accented in taupe!
We removed the 48"x36" shower enclosure and replaced it with a custom shower that included a convenient toe rest for leg shaving! A great solution in a small shower area. We finished off the shower with a frameless custom shower door which kept the space open and airy.
We changed on the vanity for cabinetry that was visually clean and sophisticated. And the new solution increased the storage, too by replacing the knee-hole space of the dressing area with deep drawer storage. We retained the mirror but centered two lights over each bowl for more directional lighting.
The floor is a luxury vinyl planking in a rich stained, hand scraped look. It was a budget saver because it went directly over the existing sheet vinyl. It looks like a very expensive selection and will take the abuse of water all day long!
We didn't need to change the tub, because it was in great condition and at this budget it wasn't the best use of funds. But we still wanted it to look like it was part of the room. Since it sat so low and looked dwarfed with the high ceilings, an easy solution was to hang shelves and pictures above. These decorations helped to bring emphasis to the area a carried the eye-height focus around the room. Plus, the shelves were great for relaxing candles during tub-time!
Accessories were chosen to include the grey-blue of the walls, the browns of the cabinets, floor, and grout and completed the spectrum to the array of white hues. The art work and area rugs echoed this palette and created visual interest with a variety of curved, organic lines to soften all the rectangles in the room.
This Face Lift was a major change for not major money!!!
