Sometimes a space can be too open in one area but unnecessarily shut down in another. Such was the case in this 1980's house. About ten years prior to the kitchen remodel the clients had a huge addition added on to the back of the house which gave them a giant living space, but the dinky little kitchen was awful. Over the years the homeowner attempted to initiate the change out, but always ran up against obstacles and lack of inspiration. Obstacles such as waste lines running in the soffits and the stumbling block of no clear understanding of how the space could be fully transformed.

I came in and closed the opening between the addition and the old space that had defined the kitchen size. The opening was 16' wide and left no room to expand the work triangle, which once smaller (now it's 13' wide) allowed me to move the range from the sink area and give it the stature it deserved (not to mention all the work space!). I also enlarged the old window/pass-through and brought it down to counter height which allowed for the countertop to run fluidly through. I added a wall of pantry cabinets, island, and a looping run of cabinets on the addition side to give the client's a cohesive, open kitchen that will grow with the family and is flexible to all their lifestyle demands!
