Family Neighborhood

Three discriminating clients buy three adjoining lots. The lots were part of a large open meadow surrounded by a river, trees and farmland. Each client was concerned about the aesthetics of the other two houses. After all, a small neighborhood was being created without any immediate architectural context. The solution to the design dilemma was to hire one architectural firm to design all three homes. One of the challenges for the design team was to create design distinctions for each house while establishing a harmonious design solution for the group as a whole. Adding to the challenge was the differing sizes of the homes which ranged from 4,000 square feet to 8,000 square feet and the program needs of the individual home owners.
