Foxgate Basement Renovation

Clean lines, bold colors and simple materials define this modern lower level renovation. As is typical with many growing families in suburbia there is always a desire for more living space. The owner’s wanted to renovate their unfinished basement primarily to have more “play” space for themselves and for their two children. The organization and flow of the spaces was critical to the success of the project. As you enter the lower level the existing stair was generously opened to connect with the new living spaces. Given the existing stair, wall and column arrangement the bar area was situated centrally between the media/ living area and play room. This provided convenient access for both kids and adults. It also allowed the media area to have limited disruption. Bold accent colors provided contrast from the bright white walls and were introduced to define the different spaces (i.e. media/ living, fitness and play room). At the point of entry for the storage/ mechanical room and the play room a “recess” was created. These recesses were inserted primarily to break up the long wall which would have otherwise run the full extent of the existing column line.
