The home rests on the side of a deep and lush ravine, and you want to hear the streams below gurgling as you stand next to the towering trees on the slopes. But the streams have gone away over the years of urban development, and the homeowners asked us to recreate the sights and sounds of the forests on their doorsteps. It's been several years since, and many a visitor would say that they ascend the stone steps and feel as if transported to a mountain retreat. Perhaps a hillside village house somewhere in Asia. And yet they feel embraced, happy, familiar, and at home.
