From Fire to Finish

Due to the amount of water and smoke damage caused by the fire this Robbinsdale home was brought down to the subfloors and studs. The original kitchen and dining room area was separated by a load bearing wall leaving two small spaces. Knowing this family does a lot of entertaining we decided to flush mount the load bearing wall, enlarge both the kitchen and dining room windows to allow for more natural lighting and incorporate an Old World Spain feel to tie in their roots.

To gain more seating the deep closet was recessed back and a breakfast bar was added in the dining room while laying the natural hardwood floors horizontally gave both spaces a visually larger appearance. Due to losing the load bearing wall the double ovens were placed side-by-side, separated by a firewall and topped with a cooktop. All appliances are stainless steel with the exception of the apron sink and hood vent, which are both hammered copper.

Pulling the Old World Spain feeling throughout we went with black distressed cabinetry and bronze hardware, added in beverage center, wine rack, over sized sink pendant and a black granite countertop with orange/red flecks to tie in with the backsplash color. For space saving we incorporated the microwave into the upper cabinetry while the front facing uppers boast a diamond shaped wire mesh inserts that plays off the backsplash shape.

This redesigned kitchen checks off everything on their needs and wants wish list. Time to make some memories!
