Fulfilling the Expectations

The project was a complete renovation of the existing home. Because of the bad experience in the previous home, the homeowners (wife) did not want any home automation. We started this project as a simple audio/video distribution with a security system, and thru the learning curve and education of the benefits of the connected home ended up with the full blown home technology installation.

Security and surveillance cameras were key priorities for the client. All cameras can be visible on any home television and also access remotely from any location via secured internet connection. Burglary system contains 40 monitored zones and can be easily controlled from any system touchscreen or remote.

Dedicated Home Theater
The client is a big movie lover with a large collection of DVD’s. We managed to incorporate his collection into (2) 400 disks DVD changers, and started a new Blu-Ray collection on the 400 disk changer. All changers are connected via RS-232 ports to Control4 controller. From the beginning of the project home theater was the most important room in the house. We had to deal with the image of the perfect room the client had in his mind, and challenges of existing structures.

The other challenge was a last minute change from a large screen and projector to a 103” Panasonic plasma TV. We had to reroute already laid-out cables.
The benefits of the HD video distribution came in handy when we learned that the owner is a cigar smoker which is strictly prohibited inside of the house.

Additional TV units installed on the Patio and in the Garage became very useful in everyday life. They also play important role during parties. There are (12) HD distributed video zones and (17) distributed audio zones in the system.

Kids Play Room:
There are (4) game systems (PS3, Xbox360, Wii and Nintendo Cube) connected directly to (2) 40” Samsung LCD TVs. The games systems are connected locally, but both TV’s are also connected to audio/video distribution system. All the central distribution sources which were programmed to be accessible for the kids are available in the room.

Lighting Control:
At first, there was no lighting control system installed. The client got frustrated with the number of switches. We had to replace all existing switches (147), with exception of the few which could not be changed (due to structure limitations) to introduce lighting control system. There are number of programmed lighting scenes and the outside lights work on an astronomical clock.

The Basketball court next to the garage on the back of the house has a separate audio zone, which is controlled by a remote or iPhone application. It was added at the last moment when the whole project was done. We could not run any additional wires to this place without major construction work, so adding a wireless Control4 speakerpoint was a very easy and cost effective solution. The outside audio is the 17th zone on the system.

The end result – very successful project and extremely satisfied customer.
