Reaching to the Stars

The goal was to create a unique space for the homeowner, a space to hide from the rest of the world and also to create a nice family entertainment room. The room should combine luxury and the traditional theater feels. The room had to be a destination room, not just another room in the house to stay in. It should be a room to gather together with friends and family members to enjoy a multimedia experience like no other place in the house. The theater room must be versatile for different entertainment forms, whether that is a movie, video game or music (all in high definition of course). The client also wanted room to be isolated from the heart room directly above.

The projector is hidden in the soffit that runs around the room. The control system (RTI T4 remote) with a custom program is easy to use and functional. The front speakers are hidden behind the acoustically transparent screen. The subwoofers are located below the screen, built in the cabinet. They are placed on the subwoofer floatation devices. The rest of the speakers from that 7.2 surround system are hidden behind custom panels with acoustically transparent fabric, which also help with room acoustics and sound absorption.

Sound propagation and acoustic performance is achieved nicely with the installation of the custom acoustic panels. The room was treated with sound isolation materials (SheetBlok – vinyl sound barrier, StopGap – Acoustical Sealant.

The sources range from Blu-Ray, HD Dish Network, Escient server connected to 400 disks DVD changer, and PS3.

Lighting control: Vantage Controls lighting system allows for multiple scenes such as intermission, movie time … etc. Independent control for each light is also available.

Motorized drapes are also integrated in the control package.

Ceiling (3-D starlight ceiling creates a wow-factor and also enhances the look and theme of the room).

Theater seating is personalized with a custom logo.

Challenges:
Predetermined space and the room layout made it hard to properly place equipment. Also, the limited space determined the size of screen, which is smaller than the client hoped for.

Outcome:
All of the client expectations were achieved and many exceeded. The client was very pleased with the final result, which is very important for us. From the automation of the curtains to the acoustic sound panels and design, everything was catered to the homeowners taste. The theater is a complete system for pure entertainment. The chairs are versatile with touch electric controls, and have the owner’s designer logo. The owners enjoy the “starry sky” appearance of the ceiling fiber optics. When you are watching a movie, the 3-D effect of the ceiling is amazing. Overall, this is a very high-impact immersive theater.
Thanks to its wow-factor, this theater is always the last stop on any tour through the house.
