Granny's Granny
The design of this 600 sf accessory dwelling unit (granny flat) was built in honor of the home owner's grandmother. Although the dwelling is small, it feels much larger because of the intentional use of volume and natural lighting. The 2-story design features a living room, a full size kitchen and a full size refrigerator located in the adjacent pantry, a stackable washer/dryer, a full bathroom and a loft bedroom. Built with a tight, high performance exterior envelope, the living unit is warm and efficiently heated. The therapeutic infrared heating system is designed to reduce muscle and joint pain, decrease joint stiffness, relieve muscle spasms, and to increase flexibility and blood flow. The use of natural materials like concrete, wood, steel and glass create a simple yet effect palette that also feels warm, yet with a fresh character.
