In the rolling hills above the city of Portland, this home is sited adjacent to a small forest and bordered by small farms. The plan for this home was a collaboration between Departure and two newly merged families working together to create their new future.

The home is organized around an east-facing courtyard which provides a cozy exterior adjacent to the interior circulation spine. Maximizing views toward the nearby foothills further organized the plan.

The project’s sustainable features focus on salvaged materials including: recycled gym floors, salvaged fir trim and tiled backsplashes and light fixtures. Additional sustainable design features include low-flow plumbing fixtures and super-insulated walls with sprayed-in soy-based insulation. The home was also wired for a future solar hot water system, and preconfigured for solar photovoltaic roof panels.
