Working within a tight budget, the conversion of an old and oversized 1-car garage into a backyard art studio and loft space required complete overhaul to turn it into a comfortable, efficient and livable space. A portion of the existing roof was removed to allow for a new loft. Along one side of the studio is a full "wet room" bathroom made up of salvaged ceramic tiles. Double doors open to the back yard in addition to a 3-section folding set of doors that replaced the former garage doors at the driveway side.

The General Contractor, Hammer and Hand, worked their craftsmanship like they always do! With the Client's love of wine and wine making, a wood guardrail system was detailed perfectly with the use of recycled wine barrel staves. Hammer and Hand also crafted a great wood ladder that linked the spaces.
