Our goal on this project was to create a contemporary landscape that used sustainable solutions for a soggy backyard that lacked usable outdoor space. We created a large rain garden bordered by natural basalt boulders that collects excess stormwater, allowing the backyard to drain properly. We incorporated an angled deck off the kitchen to provide enough space for a morning coffee and outdoor cooking. It transitions down onto a natural stone patio for large gatherings. A deep plant bed was created against the garage to showcase plant textures and soften the patio space. The curved edge of the patio mimics the irregular shape of the corner rain garden, with a gently sloping lawn in between the two spaces. Our clients love the flexibility of their space to accommodate their growing family and really valued the ecologically-sensitive landscape solutions.
